The first business on Baseline Road in Southwest Little Rock, Cloverdale Animal Hospital was started in 1962 by Dr. Arthur W. Gillum in a partnership with Dr. Darrel Wood and Dr. Jim VanPatter. The initial 900 sq. ft. facility was modest; with a small reception area, 2 exam rooms, a small operating room, a pharmacy area and kennel. In 1974, Dr. Arthur Gillum was awarded Veterinarian of the Year. In 1978, the practice was expanded to a 3000 sq. ft facility in anticipation of Dr. Michael Gillum graduating from veterinary school at his father's alma mater, Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Father and son practiced side by side until Arthur's retirement in 1994. Dr. Michael Gillum has continued practicing at Cloverdale Animal Hospital to the present day
