Before I became a "holistic" veterinarian I felt limited and inadequate when treating my patients. It made me sick to send a dog or cat out the door with a processed, prescription diet. I recall debating with a manufacturer rep about the presence of ethoxyquin in their food and what I believed to be an association between artificial preservatives and the rise in pet cancer. Treating every case with antibiotics or steroids felt like malpractice. Using toxic chemicals to clean our clinic never felt right. My "toolbox" was so limited! I have felt a lot of guilt for how I practiced conventionally those first few years out of veterinary school. If only I had known then, what I know now! Have you ever said that to yourself?
