Overview

Mercy Crusade is the only non-profit affordable veterinary clinic in the area. Dedicated to ending pet overpopulation and offering affordable animal healthcare

Mercy Crusade was founded in 1949 by Betty Cardoni. The main focus of the organization was to provide financial assistance for spaying and neutering cats and dogs in Los Angeles. Betty saw the needless suffering and killing of thousands of companion animals that were either living on the streets or brought to the local shelters because the owners no longer wanted them. Having seen this suffering, she set out to make a difference, and that she did. Betty's accomplishments are numerous and significant. Thousands of dollars have been raised and used for animal welfare efforts. Because of her, and a sizable legacy in 1980, a groundbreaking expansion of the Los Angeles City's Spay-Neuter Clinic was accomplished at the 11th Avenue Animal shelter. In 1988 at the North Central Animal Center, the new spay-neuter clinic was dedicated to Betty for her 'devotion to animal welfare'. Mercy Crusade has an established history of working well with animal regulation authorities, rescue groups and all those with a positive interest in animal welfare. Betty passed away in 1993 and she is now the gatekeeper of the Rainbow Bridge for all our animal friends in heaven. We miss her and thank her for all she has done for the animals. Continuing in the tradition of Betty Cardoni, Mercy Crusade opened Ventura County's first low-cost, high volume, spay and neuter clinic in August of 2001. Our Spay & Neuter Clinic averages 4,000 spay and neuter surgeries a year - we are making a difference in our community. Fewer animals are entering shelters and we are reducing the number of dogs and cats euthanized in our shelters. Spay and neuter is the best, non-lethal answer to reducing the pet overpopulation problem. The pet overpopulation problem is too big to solve through adoptions alone. We must begin with spay and neuter

Mission — Mercy Crusade's mission is to end pet overpopulation by raising the public's awareness of the severe companion animal overpopulation problem, in our community, the United States, and the world, and to promote spay and neuter surgery as the primary means of addressing companion animal overpopulation. Dog and cat sterilizations are widely recognized as the most humane and effective strategy for lessening the overpopulation problem and reducing the number of stray animals on our streets. Mercy Crusade's Spay & Neuter Clinic provides greater access to affordable and free spay & neuter services. Our mission is also to provide affordable medical care for all pets
