Overview
Plateau Valley Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital with offices in Collbran and Rifle, Colorado. We care for both large and small animals, offering in-clinic services and ambulatory care to meet the needs of our community. Whether it's a family pet, working livestock, a unique species, or an urgent ranch call, our team is committed to providing dependable, compassionate veterinary care
Plateau Valley Animal Hospital began in 2009, when Dr. Clint Dennison returned to his hometown of Collbran, Colorado, to raise his family with the same rural, western ranch values and lifestyle he grew up with. Dr. Dennison left a thriving equine referral practice in California to start his first 'clinic' then called Plateau Valley Veterinary Clinic which was located in a humble shed on his home property. The change was drastic, but Dr. Dennison embraced the challenge of a mixed-animal rural practice. It didn't take him long to adapt to and love working with his neighbors and friends to care for a wide variety of species, each with unique needs, in diverse environments. In 2015, the practice relocated to the former human clinic in Collbran, and by 2018 it had settled into its current home: a cozy log cabin just outside of town on Highway 330. Today, this branch continues to serve the residents of the Plateau Valley, with our doctors and staff alternating between the Collbran and Rifle clinics. The Rifle branch of PVAH began in 2019 when Dr. Dennison treated a lame horse in Silt. That farm call introduced him to a local groomer and veterinary technician who shared his passion for animal care. Recognizing a need for veterinary services in Garfield County, Dr. Dennison rented space in her grooming room, and she managed the Silt clinic. About the same time, following the same model, Dr. Dennison also opened a small satellite clinic in Cedaredge. For about two years, he traveled to Silt twice a week, visited Cedaredge on Fridays, and handled appointments and emergencies in Collbran on the remaining days. The Cedaredge clinic eventually closed to allow for further expansion in Silt, and in January of 2024, the growing Silt practice moved into an off-grid tiny house on the same grooming property. When the current Rifle building became available in July 2024, the clinic relocated there, providing more space and the convenience of electricity. In June of 2025, we welcomed a second veterinarian, Dr. Perkins, to the practice. Dr. Perkins brings a fresh perspective, contagious enthusiasm, and a heartfelt love for people and their animals. Her modern, evidence-based approach to veterinary medicine complements Dr. Dennison's practical, experience-driven style, creating a well-rounded team that nicely blends tradition with innovation. In December 2025, we began working with local relief veterinarians to support our Rifle location, which is how we welcomed Dr. Bruning to the team. Thanks to the continued support of our clients, we've been working hard to keep up with our growing client base, and our future goals include adding another full-time veterinarian, expanding our hours in Collbran, and offering 24/7 emergency care in Rifle to better serve our communities. What began as a very small, rural, home-grown, family operation has become a two-town, two (plus) doctor, and nearly twelve-employee practice but our philosophy hasn't changed. Dr. Dennison has always believed that veterinary care should be personal, honest, and affordable. His goal has never been to pack the schedule or chase profits but to provide a valuable service, build lasting relationships with clients, and offer high-quality care at fair, accessible prices. He's also been intentional about choosing team members who share that same philosophy. At Plateau Valley Animal Hospital, we're dedicated to providing honest, small-town care that always puts people and their animals first. We're deeply grateful for our clients' ongoing support and patience as we continue to grow while remaining true to our mission of keeping care affordable, relationships genuine, and preserving the hometown feel that, we hope, makes PVAH truly unique
