CareVet of Shoreline has been a part of the Clinton community since the mid 1980’s. Dr. Berman and Dr. West purchased the veterinary practice in 2006 as the third owners. Neither had envisioned being a business owner, but circumstances and a bit of luck combined at the right time for them to take a leap of faith and venture out on their own. Having worked together in Essex for several years and becoming close friends, they recognized that they shared a vision of compassionate, individualized veterinary care and set a goal to make that vision a reality. Their hope was to create a family centered practice where they could focus on getting to know their patients and clients, develop lifelong relationships and provide options that worked for all. A small practice allows clients to see the same veterinarian to increase continuity in patient care and develop stronger bonds. The two veterinarians consult with each other on their cases to keep each other abreast of the needs and concerns of all the patients. Appointments are scheduled for a full 30 minutes to allow enough time to get a thorough history, physical exam and discuss treatment options, wellness care and answer owner’s questions. Many of our veterinary technicians have a formal education and certification in the field to insure a high level of care. Our team members are encouraged and empowered to be knowledgeable, answer questions, and provide a warm, welcoming and supportive atmosphere at CareVet of Shoreline. Over the years many positive changes have been implemented at CareVet of Shoreline. Our physical space was expanded and renovated in 2008 to create a large and more accessible reception area with a bright but cozy feeling. We added a third exam room for cats and computerized our exam rooms and work spaces for easy access to medical records. We continue to update our diagnostic and surgical equipment which includes digital radiography, in house blood chemistry, and up to date anesthetic monitoring equipment. We have embraced low stress animal handling techniques and use pheromone diffusers in our exam rooms to help decrease the stress patients can feel coming to the vet. Team members and doctors continue to stay current in their skills and knowledge at local and national veterinary conferences, and we support many of our team members in their long term educational pursuits. We have been supportive of many community organizations and events including the HK Relay for Life, the Puppy Up Walk, the Killingworth and Clinton Chambers of Commerce, Killingworth Recreation Softball and Little League, Artful Living Community Theater, Eagle Scout Projects, and more
