For years, we dreamed about opening our own animal hospital. We had lots of conversations, toured existing practices for sale, met with other hospital owners… but nothing ever felt just right. Eventually, we realized the perfect fit didn't exist—so we decided to build it ourselves. We envisioned the kind of veterinary hospital we'd want our own pets to go to—where kindness, comfort, and top-notch care go hand in hand. On January 31, 2021, over lunch at a neighborhood restaurant, we had our very first official Westshore Animal Hospital meeting. That day, we picked the name, bought the domain, and wrote our mission statement on the back of a napkin (okay, maybe not literally—but close!). From that moment on, things got real. Next up: finding the perfect location. We explored all over South Tampa until we landed on a spot on West Shore Blvd, tucked between Euclid and El Prado. It felt right. So we rolled up our sleeves—secured financing, met with architects and builders, and started bringing our vision to life. Because we built it from the ground up, we got to design every inch with intention. We created a space where pets feel safe and happy, where clients feel welcomed and cared for, and where our team genuinely enjoys coming to work. You'll notice our lobby is small—that's on purpose! We don't want pets waiting out front—we get them into a room right away. We keep a fully stocked refreshment bar: coffee and juice in the morning, beer and wine in the afternoon, plus water, soda, and tea all day long. For kids tagging along, we've got juice pouches, snacks, stickers, and more. We use Fear Free techniques to help pets feel relaxed from start to finish—think treats, squeeze cheese, and Churu on tap. We also love showing clients around. Everyone gets a full tour of the hospital (yes, even the treatment areas!) because we're proud of what we've built—and we want you to feel just as confident in it as we do. We're also big on communication. We text updates, send photos, and answer questions quickly using our dedicated hospital iPhone—because when your pet's here, we know you're thinking about them. We saw our very first patient (a sweet Rhodesian ridgeback with an ear laceration) on January 13, 2023, and officially opened for appointments on January 16th. It's hard to put into words how proud we are of this place. Building Westshore Animal Hospital from scratch has been a rollercoaster—equal parts thrilling and terrifying—but it's also been the most rewarding thing we've ever done. Thanks for being here.
