Before I was a vet, there was Olive. She was so easy to love. A retriever, who never retrieved a single thing in her life. She never gave kisses but tolerated them well. She had a crooked smile, and in case you didn't know, yes, dogs can smile. Best of all, she loved me, just as I was. Unconditionally. If you have ever had the great fortune of being loved by a pet, you know that bond is worth protecting. I have always had the desire to be a vet and help animals. But it was my love for Olive (and many other special pets along the way) that helped me see I was doing more than just making pets feel better; I was protecting the bond between a pet and their person. It's the bond, that common thread, that allows me to connect with people from all walks of life. I see love in so many amazing combinations of pet and person.
