Heartland Animal Hospital has been a trusted name in Des Moines for decades. Originally founded by Dr. Robert Culver in 1995, the practice was built with a deep commitment to the community. In 2024, Dr. Katherine Edel officially took over the practice from her father (Dr. Culver). Continuing her family’s legacy was a deeply personal decision for Dr. Edel. She chose to purchase the clinic because of the strong bond she had with the staff, the values embedded in the culture of the clinic, and her desire to uphold a level of care that reflects her upbringing and her standards
Mission — As a team, we prioritize open communication, mutual support, and a positive approach to every challenge. These values enable us to provide exceptional, individualized veterinary care and the clear guidance clients need to make informed decisions. Through continual learning and a commitment to maintaining a modern medical facility, we work to protect and strengthen the human–pet bond
