Ever since graduating from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, I've dreamt of creating a uniquely designed hospital with a calming interior. I wanted clients and their pets to walk into my practice and feel like they were entering my home—warm and inviting with a sense of style. After a yearlong search, I found my current site—a 1920s Victorian home previously owned by the neighborhood church and home to many nuns. On May 12, 1990, after months of construction, we successfully converted this four-bedroom home into Animal Medical Center of Chicago. In 2004, we added a minimalist expansion to the rear of the home to meet our expanding practice needs. This included the addition of 4 examination rooms, a large treatment room, a new dental and surgical suite, and an elevator to help pets and clients who need assistance. In 2016, we created a Comfort Room for clients to privately say good-bye to their pets. We transformed one of our second floor examination rooms to a Feline-Only Examination room after we recognized the importance of examining cats away from canine distractions
