Overview
Paws for a Cause Vet Care is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable veterinary services for dogs & cats in the Chicago area
Spay Illinois began in 2009 as a small group of volunteers offering low-cost pet vaccine clinics in several different cities throughout the state. During these initial clinics, Spay Illinois volunteers had the opportunity to meet pet owners from all over and have meaningful conversations about the benefits of preventative veterinary medicine. At that time, they were able to understand the needs of the residents and how best to meet them. That prompted partnerships with practicing veterinarians and other low-cost spay/neuter clinics, through which they began offering transport options to help people access affordable spay and neuter services. In September 2010, Spay Illinois’ first stationary spay/neuter clinic opened in Momence, Illinois. The residents of this resource-desolate area embraced this much-needed option. In a very short time, the clinic began offering full wellness services to pets and families in need. Over three years, Spay Illinois was responsible for almost 14,000 spay and neuter surgeries. Later in April of 2013, a second stationary facility in Lisle, Illinois was opened, providing even greater access to affordable care for pets and families. The clinic was so successful that in 2018 a surgical center was opened seven doors down and dedicated to spay and neuter. The first clinic became a dedicated Wellness Clinic. In 2023, over 8,941 cats and dogs were spayed and neutered, and a total of 18,696 pets and families received care at the two clinics. In 2025, Spay Illinois became Paws for a Cause Vet Care and relocated to a 16,000 sqft. facility in Naperville, IL
