Robert Hargarten first began his practice in 1982, working out of an old farmhouse on Indiana Avenue focusing on large animal care for 15 years. In 1997 he recognized the need to expand, and he built the clinic we now know as Auburn Hills Animal Hospital. Dr. Hargarten continued to grow and expand the clinic. He mentored his nephew, David Hargarten, from a young age and in 2010, when David graduated from Purdue, Dr. David Hargarten joined the clinic as our second Veterinarian. A few years later they were joined by another young doctor, Dr. Thomas Hitzeman, who had also grown up mentoring here and graduated from Purdue. In 2013 Dr. Hitzeman joined the clinic as our third doctor. Since then, one of our assistants here decided she wanted to pursue a Veterinarian degree and went off to college. Now in 2023, Dr. Therese Schafer has joined Auburn Hills Animal Hospital as our fourth doctor
