Overview

Compassionate full‐service veterinary care in Louisville, KY expert pet exams, preventive health, grooming & boarding at Audubon Animal Hospital & Cherokee Animal Clinic

Audubon Animal Hospital has been caring for cherished pets in the Louisville area for more than 60 years. The original hospital was opened in 1959 on Crittenden Drive by Dr. James R. Grace (known by his long-term clients as Dr. Bob). Dr. Bob grew up in the Schnitzelberg area, attended St. Xavier High School, the University of Louisville, and the University of Kentucky, and received his veterinary degree from Auburn University. He wanted to work in the neighborhood he grew up in, and that is where the practice began. In December 1960, the practice was moved to the corner of Springdale Drive and Preston Highway. It remained at that location for over 30 years until renovations to the Watterson Expressway demanded Audubon's relocation to our present site, conveniently near the Watterson and the airport. Dr. Bob's son, Dr. James T. Grace (graduate of Auburn University), joined the practice in 1984. Daughter Peggy Grace serves as general manager. In 2020 Dr. Jim and Peggy assumed full responsibility for the practice. Our current facility is located two minutes off I-65 and the Watterson Expressway. We are 3/4 miles on the left from Preston Highway at 1311 Durrett Lane. Our facility incorporates a full-service veterinary medical hospital with a connected boarding facility and highly experienced pet grooming staff. We have a second location at 1601 Eastern Parkway (corner of Baxter and Eastern Parkway), which has been in operation since 1980. Like Audubon Animal Medical Center, the Cherokee Animal Clinic was hand-built by Dr. Grace and his sons, renovated from an old gas station with a stucco exterior and terracotta roof. This location received several neighborhood beautification awards soon after its completion
