Overview

Atlas Veterinary Urgent Care is a same-day, appointment-based animal hospital providing urgent care for pets in Augusta, Maine. We believe in treating every patient as if they were our own pet, and giving them the same loving attention and care. We are a group of highly trained, experienced animal lovers who are devoted to giving our patients the best care possible

When Dr. Jen Mirecki set out to create a veterinary hospital, she knew she wanted more than just another name tied to geography—not simply 'Augusta Veterinary Urgent Care' or 'Capital City Vet.' She wanted a name with weight. A name that stood for something. Something strong, enduring, and deeply personal. For years, Dr. Mirecki had dreamed of owning her own veterinary practice. As a seasoned emergency and urgent care veterinarian, she had built not only medical expertise but a deep appreciation for what it means to support pet owners during some of their most stressful and emotional moments. Over time, she developed a leadership style rooted in empathy, integrity, and connection—and a reputation for treating every pet as if they were her own. Her goal wasn't to open just any veterinary hospital—it was to bring the urgent care clinic this community has needed for decades. A place built on trust, where pet owners feel supported and confident in their pet's care. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Mirecki is also an athlete with a passion for the sport of Strongman. In Strongman competitions, one of the most iconic and physically demanding events is lifting the Atlas stones —massive, round concrete boulders that can weigh as much or more than the athlete themselves. It's not enough to be strong. Lifting an Atlas stone takes grit, technique, balance, commitment, and the mental endurance to keep going when things get hard. It was after one of these grueling training sessions that the idea struck her: Atlas. The name was perfect. Not only because of the physical symbolism, but also because of what it represents. In Greek mythology, Atlas was the Titan who held up the heavens. He carried the weight of the world—a powerful image that resonated deeply with Dr. Mirecki's vision for urgent care. That's what it can feel like for pet owners: the weight of worry, fear, and the unknown. And that is what Dr. Mirecki and her team are here for

Mission — At Atlas Veterinary Urgent Care, our mission is to bridge the gap between general practice and emergency care. Guided by strength, compassion, and trust, we're a steady, supportive presence for the pets in our community, their families, and the local veterinary hospitals who care for them—delivering high-quality, same-day care when it matters most
