Maine Veterinary Medical Center was started in 2009 as Maine Veterinary Referral Center and only had three specialties: neurology, surgery, and internal medicine. Over the next 10 years, what started as a referral specialty hospital blossomed into a comprehensive practice as we continued to add other specialties: cardiology, oncology, emergency and critical care, and rehabilitation. Along with attracting exceptionally talented personnel, we also gained state-of-the-art equipment such as an MRI machine, mechanical ventilator, minimally invasive tools, fluoroscopy, and an underwater treadmill. In 2019, another expansion was completed, which added two infectious disease isolation wards, a dedicated cat-only ward, and a brand-new intensive care unit. MVMC now boasts approximately 35+ doctors and 170+ support staff members who treat approximately 10,000 pets per year
