A little girl with big dreams and a heart already set on becoming a veterinarian. I knew this was my calling. I grew up on a farm where life began early and rarely slowed down. Chickens, peacocks, pot-bellied pigs, horses, ducks, goats, cats, and dogs weren't just animals — they were my steadfast teachers. They taught me responsibility before I could spell it. They taught me compassion before I fully understood it. I learned that animals feel deeply — fear, comfort, loyalty, pain, love; even when they cannot say a word. From a young age, I felt a calling to be their voice, to advocate, and to protect. I wanted to learn everything I could, so I could serve them well. Some of my earliest memories are following my mom into the night as she was laying the foundation of All Creatures Veterinary Hospital; emergency calls under dark skies, the hum of the suburban tires on quiet roads, the steady calm in her voice no matter the crisis waiting ahead. All Creatures Veterinary Hospital has always been my second home. My mom showed me what it means to answer when you are needed, not when it is convenient, but when it matters and what dedication truly looks like. Her work ethic was never loud, but it was relentless, steady and faithful. It was forged long before me, in her own childhood on a dairy farm, where early mornings and responsibility were not optional. That generational wisdom, the grit, the humility, the reverence for animals and for people was passed down, not in lectures, rather as examples. I silently watched, absorbed and followed. Now to stand beside her, not as the little girl watching, but as a veterinarian working shoulder to shoulder with her is one of the greatest honors of my life. There is something profoundly sacred about serving together; understanding each other without words in an exam room and carrying the same mission, values, and love for the human-animal bond. The human-animal bond is not a small thing. It is sacred and healing. It is steady in a world that can seem loud and chaotic. An animal's selfless love is a daily reminder of God's presence that is constant, faithful, and unconditional. In the exam room, in the barn aisle, in moments of joy and in moments of grief we continue to witness and embrace that bond; and we do everything physically possible to support it. This photo captures more than a child holding a dog beside a veterinarian. It captures a calling being formed. A legacy being continued. A mother planting seeds of faith, discipline, and compassion that would grow into a shared profession. I am who I am because I followed her footsteps and because she turned around and invited me to walk beside her. Working side by side with my mom, helping animals together, is more than a career for me; It is a calling, a legacy, It is love lived out, every single day
