Overview
Compassionate veterinary care with a personal touch. Expert, empathetic care from your locally owned veterinary clinic
Founded by Dr. Anna Austin, Huntersville Veterinary Clinic is proud to be 100% privately owned. In an era of corporate consolidation, our independence allows us to prioritize personalized care, continuity, and strong relationships with our clients and their pets. Dr. Austin has loved animals for as long as she can remember. Growing up in North Carolina, she spent her childhood exploring the outdoors and caring for her pets, which led to a lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. Her passion and dedication were evident early on—she was an award-winning participant in the NC 4-H Horse Program, earning the title of NC 4-H Horseman of the Year in 1997. Dr. Austin attended North Carolina State University as a Park Scholar, one of the university’s most competitive merit-based scholarships recognizing academic achievement and leadership. She majored in Zoology with a minor in Animal Science and graduated summa cum laude. She earned her veterinary degree (VMD) from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine—fun fact: it's the only veterinary school in the U.S. to grant a VMD instead of a DVM. During her training, she gained diverse experience and volunteered to provide free veterinary services in underserved communities, while also earning awards in surgery and sports medicine. After completing an internship at Blue Ridge Equine Clinic in Virginia, Dr. Austin returned to her home state, working as a small animal veterinarian in Salisbury and Mooresville for nearly a decade. In 2020, the pandemic brought a temporary pause to her clinical work as she stayed home to care for her newborn and help her older children with remote learning. During that time, she continued her medical career as a writer, but missed hands-on veterinary care and the connection with clients and their pets. In 2023, Dr. Austin returned to clinical work by providing veterinary relief services across the region, serving practices stretching from Ballantyne to Statesville. Inspired to create something of her own, she founded Huntersville Veterinary Clinic with a mission to provide compassionate, low-stress care and education-driven service for local pets and their people
