The Galway Veterinary Hospital opened on November 21, 1994. Practice owner James H. Smith, Jr., D.V.M., envisioned a full-service animal facility providing comprehensive medical and surgical care for his patients. The hospital has maintained continuous accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association since 1998
