Twenty-five years ago, veterinarians in the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas managed their own emergencies or covered for each rotation. Having dealt with balancing the emergency needs of patients and the busy routine of daily medicine and surgery, a group of over thirty concerned and caring local veterinarians met early in 1988 to deliberate and resolve the many dilemmas of after-hours care. The AECHV was founded in 1989 and comprises two state-of-the-art equipped and staffed hospitals in Kingston and Poughkeepsie, New York
