The Scratching Post Cat Hospital and Retreat was established by Dr. Andrew Summers and his family in Aug. 2002, in a small block building at 963 E. Franklin St., near the corner of E. Franklin and Clyo Rd in Centerville, OH. Their intention was to operate a cat only practice where the pace is slower and gentler than the typical high-volume veterinary clinics. In 2006 the Summers' family purchased and renovated a building at 133 W. Franklin St. and relocated Scratching Post there in 2007. The renovation included three exam rooms, a surgery suite, lab, treatment area, and a dedicated boarding area. The Scratching Post operated as a single doctor practice for 19 years until Dr. Sara Wells joined the team in 2021. Dr. Wells, a Centerville native who had driven by The Scratching Post thousands of times, had always dreamed of working exclusively with cats at The Scratching Post. Dr. Wells and her family graciously accepted an offer to purchase The Scratching Post, and in March of 2023 became the new owners. They are honored to carry on the legacy of the Scratching Post as a family-owned business and remain committed to a more personable and slower paced atmosphere that has been the foundation for the practice
