Overview

Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties (PETS) is the oldest, independently-owned emergency and specialty hospital in Central Pennsylvania. Located in Lancaster, PA, PETS provides 24/7/365 emergency care for dogs, cats, and small mammals. We also work in conjunction with general veterinarians to provide care in a number of specialties including cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, and surgery

March 1990 – a group of Lancaster County veterinarians see the need for an emergency veterinary hospital to serve the local community. July 1990 – PETS opens our doors at our original location at 1159 Lititz Pike, a 1900 square foot, two-story facility behind the Stockyard Inn Restaurant. 2000 – Due to the need for expansion, PETS’s Board of Directors begin searching for a new, larger location. February 2003 – PETS moves to a new 7000 square foot facility at 930 North Queen Street, Lancaster, PA. Formerly the Red Rose Buick garage, this property was transformed into a beautiful, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital. 2011 – PETS begins expanding our practice into veterinary specialites including cardiology, dermatology, radiology, surgery, ophthalmology, and oncology. 2018 – PETS emergency service is offered 24/7/365

What reviewers say

88% Positive sentiment
based on 1,938 reviews

Operating as a 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital, this practice provides comprehensive critical care and specialized medical services. The facility is widely regarded for its highly compassionate, professional, and knowledgeable medical team who excel at supporting pet owners through difficult medical crises and end-of-life decisions. Thorough explanations, structured treatment estimates, and attentive follow-up communication are frequently highlighted. While the facility is exceptionally clean and well-equipped to handle urgent trauma, oncology, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgeries, visitors should expect potential wait times due to high patient volume and emergency triage protocols, alongside premium pricing typical of emergency veterinary care.
