The Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County is a non-profit organization that operates a low-cost spay-neuter clinic and provides other services to help homeless pets and pet owners in the community

The Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County originally chartered in 1968 and underwent reorganization from 1997 to 1998. Charles Hand, a local businessman, rented to the Humane Society a building for seven years from which we could conduct sheltering operations. Contrary to popular belief, the Humane Society is not 'funded' by the city or county, and sadly, the expense of caring for the rising number of homeless animals in our community far exceeded our income, which forced us to close our doors in 2003. Without a building to maintain, we were able to refocus our energy & resources on pro-active programs & services to better serve the animals & people in our community. We have helped thousands of homeless pets & pet owners since 2003 & will continue to do so in the coming years. However, the euthanasia rate at the local county shelter continued to weigh heavy on our hearts. We partnered with Animal Control & Adoption Service in January 2009 in an effort to help the shelter reduce euthanasia & increase adoptions. While the partnership increased adoptions by about 25%, the shelter was still forced to euthanize approximately 77% of its animal residents, which equates to nearly 90 per week and nearly twice the national average. Our inability to truly impact those statistics in a big way with our current programs prompted us to take a huge step in the most proactive direction possible. A building located at 940 Tennessee Avenue was purchased in 2010, which is now the home of the Humane Society's administrative offices and new Spay-Neuter Clinic, which opened it's doors to the public in August 2017. Using the Humane Alliance model, which has assisted 100+ groups to successfully open & operate high quality low-cost spay-neuter clinics across the country, our clinic has spayed & neutered nearly 7,000 dogs and cats from August 2017 – February 2019. The clinic is open to all families regardless of income, and we serve pet owners and rescue groups from any geographic location so long as you can get the animals to us
