Dr. Tanner previously enjoyed a 13 year career as a veterinarian and partner in the prestigious Elgin Veterinary Hospital, established in 1951. During this time Dr. Tanner was recognized as a top 5 veterinarian by the PRCA in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2016, Dr. Tanner was named the 2016 Veterinarian Of The Year by the PRCA. Dr. Tanner also practiced at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital for 10 years and established their Rockdale branch
