Mazie's Mission

Mazie’s Mission is a nonprofit veterinary hospital dedicated to serving the homeless and neglected animals in our community. We are the same as any other veterinary hospital, but our clients are animal rescue organizations and animal shelters. We strive to build personal relationships with our partners and to provide affordable and quality care for the homeless animals in Dallas/Fort Worth and surrounding areas

Mazie’s Mission is named after Dr. Shults’ dog Mazie. Mazie was her very first shelter dog, and they developed a bond that was uncanny. She also developed many diseases over her lifetime, including hypothyroidism and Cushings disease. Dr. Shults was treating both quite successfully until Mazie was diagnosed with lymphoma on Dec 23, 2009. Chemotherapy was attempted but discontinued when she deteriorated. She was put to rest in April 2010. We can not wait to see her at the bridge. During her years in private practice, she saw rescue organizations struggling to stay afloat, often not able to pay for care even if they desperately wanted to. She also saw many owners requesting euthanasia instead of treating the animals in need of care. Dr. Shults truly began to feel she needed to move away from private practice and concentrate on homeless animals. She believes that every animal deserves exceptional veterinary care regardless of being homeless. In 2014, Dr. Shults left private practice for good to open the first veterinary hospital of it’s kind! In January 2014 we opened our doors to our first patient in Frisco, Texas. We quickly outgrew that original facility and in 2018, moved to a much larger facility in Carrollton. We have again outgrown our current facility and will move to an even larger one at the end of 2024!

Mission — Mazie’s Mission was founded to bring a self-sustaining, focused approach to animal welfare with the purpose of eliminating unnecessary euthanasia. This will be accomplished by providing professional veterinary care, expert forensic evidence, and adoption assistance to shelters, rescue groups and first responders, as well as other non-profit animal welfare groups
