Ten West Bird and Animal Hospital has a rich history spanning over 35 years. Originally located across the freeway on what is now Haverty's Furniture property, the practice began as a rural clinic serving both large and small animals. Dr. Powers acquired the practice in 1997, a time when remnants of its large animal focus still existed. As San Antonio grew, the practice shifted its focus to dogs and cats. Dr. Powers purchased the practice's land and built the current state-of-the-art facility, moving in 1998 and renaming it Ten West Bird and Animal Hospital to reflect its broader clientele. Designed by local architect Steven Kramer with interiors by Suzanne Partridge. Showing their dedication to sustainability, Dr. Powers and her husband personally care for the hospital's grounds with organic gardening techniques and Xeriscape, which prioritize water conservation through drought-tolerant planting
