Pet Savers started as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to feline foster and adoption in 1995 in Spokane County. We planted roots at 7525 East Trent Avenue, transforming a 1924 private home into a hardworking animal clinic. It quickly became apparent to the founders that foster and adoption alone were not going to make a significant impact on the staggering pet overpopulation problem. They began implementing mobile spay/neuter events across Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, and beyond. As demand exploded, it became clear that mobile clinics alone weren’t enough. In 2005, Pet Savers pivoted to become a specialty spay and neuter clinic (HQHVSN)—the only standalone facility in our area. Spay/neuter is the single most effective way to tackle pet overpopulation. Shifting away from foster and adoption allowed us to expand our surgical capacity & better fit the needs of our community. In 2018, we made the big decision to start a capital campaign to pursue growth and expansion once again. The dream was to move Pet Savers into a larger facility! After 3 years of raising funds & searching for the right property, in 2021 we took a giant leap forward. With the help of River Bank and our community, we were able to purchase the property at 12824 E Nora Ave and complete renovations of the upper floor & a full build-out of the lower floor. Our goals for this new building were to once again expand spay/neuter capacity & work with additional rescues and shelters to continue to address overpopulation. In fall of 2022, we opened the doors to our brand-new, spacious clinic. Modern, comfortable, and purpose-built, this location is the foundation of our next chapter. Fast forward to January of 2025: Pet Savers brought on a second full-time veterinarian which allowed us to expand capacity once again. Twice a week, we are able to perform tandem surgeries and add an additional 60 spay/neuters each week. With this addition to the staff, we are also able to serve 50 more pets at a monthly vaccine clinic on a Saturday. In these 20 years of being a dedicated spay/neuter clinic, we’ve performed over 120,000 sterilizations, saving hundreds of thousands of lives & preventing unwanted litters
