A PIMS, or practice information management system, is the software platform a veterinary practice runs on day to day — electronic medical records, appointment scheduling, invoicing, and often inventory and client communication. Common platforms include Cornerstone, ezyVet, AVImark, and Provet Cloud, among others. Corporate groups frequently standardize on a single PIMS across their acquired practices to centralize reporting and data.
Why it matters in veterinary consolidation
Which PIMS a practice runs is a practical signal of its size, sophistication, and — often — its ownership status, since consolidators typically migrate newly acquired practices onto a group-wide platform. For vendors selling into the veterinary market, PIMS choice is one of the clearest technographic signals of a practice's stage and corporate affiliation.
