Overview
Our skilled, certified and trustworthy veterinarians and staff understand that your pets are family, they are your babies. At Lashley Animal Hospital, our vets concentrate on the study, treatment, and control of pet injuries and diseases, the treatment of acute and chronic illness, the immunization of healthy pets against disease, surgery, nutrition, radiology, dental care, and preventive care for dogs and cats
For over 50 years, Dr. David E. Lashley, DVM, has owned and operated Lashley Animal Hospital with a focus on preventative, wellness, and surgical care as well as the diagnosis, treatment, and cure of sick animals. He has received repeated nominations as one of the Top Three Veterinarians in the Belleville News Democrat's Readers Choice Awards. Dr. Lashley gives back to his community by volunteering to teach children about domestic animals and wildlife at local elementary schools, and by serving as the founder of the Veterinary Explorer Post for the Boy Scouts of America. He also spent more than 20 years serving as the sole veterinarian for Treehouse Wildlife Center, a nonprofit organization that provides community service to people in southwestern Illinois, who encounter injured or orphaned wildlife. There, he donated his time, services, and supplies to save the lives of a wide variety of wildlife species. Dr. Lashley has also provided Pro Bono services to the Belleville Area Humane Society, including teaming up with a colleague to donate the center's first Avid Microchip Scanner to facilitate the return of lost pets to their owners. Additionally, he has served as the President and Vice President of the Southern Illinois Veterinary Medical Association throughout his career. Having served as veterinarian for K-9 police units in Belleville, Cahokia, Caseyville, Sauget, and Swansea, he is often sought by the handlers and professional partners of working dogs. Dr. Lashley donated a bulletproof vest to the Village of Sauget for one of Illinois' top performing K-9 officers and provided complimentary care to a local search-and-rescue dog who gave his life to the rescue and recovery acts following the September 11, 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City. A 1967 graduate of the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Lashley was one of the first veterinarians in the United States to learn and perform a Femoral Head Ostectomy – a surgical procedure that removes the femoral head and neck from the femur to alleviate hip pain. This procedure has saved the lives of many large breed dogs who suffer from hip dysplasia. Dr. Lashley is a Belleville, IL native and has been married to his wife Pamela for 42 years. He has three children: Christopher, Brook, and Sean; and two grandchildren: Caitlyn and Braeden. His household pets include Paddi, an Irish Setter, and Keleigh, a domestic house cat. He is also Granddad to Apollo, an English Cream Retriever who belongs to his daughter Brook, as well as Deus, a Bernese Mountain dog belonging to his son Christopher
