Brenner Animal Hospital was opened in 1964 and kept growing before moving to its current location in 1985. Brenner is the third hospital in Maryland to be certified by the American Animal Hospital Association. Dr. Brenner has designed six veterinary hospitals and had the Brenner Animal Hospital design chosen as one of the top 12 in the U.S. by Veterinary Economics. Dr. Bob Brenner attended the University of Maryland as an undergraduate and earned a V.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania afterward. In 1975, Dr. Brenner opened the Columbia Animal Hospital. In 1979, he formed the Beltway Emergency/ Specialty Animal Hospital in P.G. County and served as its president for ten years. Dr. Brenner also served as a volunteer veterinarian at the National Aquarium in Baltimore in 1993-94. From 1984 - 1998, Dr. Brenner toured the U.S. and was known as 'Dr. Bob.' He was seen or heard on over 300 T.V. and radio show's coast to coast, including an interview with Oprah. From 1996 to 1998, he served on the board of directors of the veterinary technicians' program at Essex Community College. Dr. Brenner has also been seen on the stages of Arena Stage, Olney Theater, Studio Theater, Constitution Hall, and other theaters as Bob Brenner the actor. Bob has acted in or directed over 100 productions from Philadelphia to Key West, Florida. Most recently, he conceived, directed, and starred as John Adams in a production of the musical '1776' with the Washington Symphony Orchestra at Constitution Hall. This production also starred Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee, the honorable Tom Foley (former Speaker of the House of Representatives), and seven other U.S. senators and congressmen. When not taking care of patients or appearing on stage, Bob is an avid golfer and landscaper. He has been the club champion at Norbeck C.C. twice. His home was chosen the grand-prize winner for ornamental landscape design by the Landscape Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington. At home, Bob and his wife Mary Jo, a teacher at Paint Branch High School, care for one dog, three cats, all strays
