Overview

We are pleased to provide a wide variety of veterinary services for animals in the Mount Joy, PA area, which includes wellness exams, vaccinations, routine surgery, diagnostic services, full dental care, nutritional care, and more!

Dr. Libby and Dr. Nixon opened Companion Animal Hospital on March 5, 1995. They renovated a split-level house and turned it into a veterinary hospital using a Builder’s Square credit card and sweat equity. At that point, there were no other employees unless you counted their two small children. The hospital was founded on the premise of “caring for pets and their people.” Our first day began hosting a rabies vaccination clinic with all funds donated to the Lancaster County Humane League. With the help of the Middletown Canine Club, we vaccinated over 150 dogs and cats that Saturday. Since that day, we have continued to provide quality veterinary healthcare to the community. Our practice has grown quite a bit over the years with the addition of more veterinarians to help meet the caseload of our community. Dr. Genova joined our practice in 1996, Dr. McAlonis joined our practice in 2015, Dr. Emig and Dr. Kauffman joined our practice in 2016 and Dr. Nissley joined our practice in 2017. To aid the doctors in providing the best veterinary care possible, we have a large number of veterinary technicians on our team, many of whom went to a veterinary technician school to become certified in their work. We also have many qualified veterinary assistants and a wonderful reception team. We are proud that many of our employees have been with us for a decade or more, helping to keep the care of your pets consistent and familiar. Recently in 2013, we moved our team to a new facility large enough to accommodate the needs of our patients and clients. You will be welcomed by a large reception counter and spacious waiting room. There are 6 examination rooms, one of which is a comfort room designed for prolonged visitation and end-of-life passing. In the back, we upgraded our treatment area and inpatient housing to provide a more comfortable work environment and place for your pets to stay. We have a dedicated x-ray and ultrasonography area, surgery suite, and rehabilitation room. Lastly, we have a separate kenneling area for patients who are boarding with us. Our hospital is completely handicap accessible
